The 2024 NBA All-Star Game will return to the classic East vs. West format, the league announced on October 25, 2023. The game will be played on February 18, 2024 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The NBA has used a different format for the All-Star Game in recent years. In 2020, the league switched to a team captain draft format, with the two leading vote-getters from each conference serving as captains and drafting their teams from a pool of players. The league returned to the traditional East vs. West format for the 2021 All-Star Game, but used the team captain draft format again in 2022 and 2023.
The decision to return to the classic East vs. West format for the 2024 All-Star Game was made after feedback from players and fans.
"We listened to our fans and players, and they overwhelmingly told us they wanted the All-Star Game to return to the traditional East vs. West format," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. "We are excited to bring back this iconic format for the 73rd NBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis."
The 2024 NBA All-Star Game will be the first All-Star Game to be played in Indianapolis since 1985. The city has hosted the NBA Finals twice, in 1998 and 2000.
